CERAMICS
Terracotta, Earthenware, Stoneware, Porcelain and China
Our ceramic conservation and restoration work can involve cleaning and removing any previous repairs. Broken parts can be joined and missing areas can be rebuilt and colour matched to the existing surface. All products used are non-yellowing and removable. We can offer sympathetic museum repairs as well as full restoration.
Please be aware that any repaired ceramics would be for display purposes only.
Retouching repair work to a Pre-Columbian terracotta pot
Thrown vessel by Hans Coper
When this ceramic came into the studio, there were old discoloured repairs which needed removing and 2 very large areas missing. We dismantled, re joined loose parts and filled the joins and losses. The repair work was then colour matched to the original surface
A very enjoyable job carried out beautifully and a new life given to a beautiful piece.
Peruvian Terracotta Figure This few thousand year old terracotta figure has been carefully consolidated for stability. His left hand and foot have been rebuilt. The areas of heavy paint loss have then been delicately retouched.
Ceramic Teapot. this was a very beautiful teapot to work on. Once we joined all the broken parts, the joins were filled and colour matched to an invisible finish. You would never know this had been in so many pieces.
Restoration of a Chinese Porcelain Lamp
Here we have reattached the broken parts, there was then a large hole which needed to be rebuilt in the centre. All repairs were then colour matched to the original surface and the base was stabilised too.
This lamp was one of a pair and the owner was absolutely thrilled to have them back looking as good as she had remembered them being.
Terracotta Warriors
We thoroughly enjoyed restoring these two Terracotta Warriors. They were falling apart and crumbling away with a lot of previous repair work to remove and rebuild. We cleaned the surfaces from a lot of dirt and moss. The disintegrating parts were consolidated. Cracks and certain losses were colour filled and re built. They looked fantastic once restored
